Solaris Zones: Operating System Support for Consolidating Commercial Workloads
Server consolidation, which allows multiple workloads to run on the same system, has become increasingly important as a way to improve the utilization of computing resources and reduce costs. Consolidation is common in mainframe environments, where technology to support running multiple workloads and even multiple operating systems on the same hardware has been evolving since the late 1960’s. T...
متن کاملTowards effective dynamic resource allocation for enterprise applications
The growing use of online services requires substantial supporting infrastructure. The efficient deployment of applications relies on the cost effectiveness of commercial hosting providers who deliver an agreed quality of service as governed by a service level agreement for a fee. The priorities of the commercial hosting provider are to maximise revenue, by delivering agreed service levels, and...
متن کاملA semantic-aware role-based access control model for pervasive computing environments
Access control in open and dynamic Pervasive Computing Environments (PCEs) is a very complex mechanism and encompasses various new requirements. In fact, in such environments, context information should be used in access control decision process; however, it is not applicable to gather all context information completely and accurately all the time. Thus, a suitable access control model for PCEs...
متن کاملData Integrity Limitations in in Hybrid Security Architectures
We discuss a class of computer/network architectures that supports multilevel security and commercial applications, while utilizing primarily commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) workstations, operating systems and hardware components. We show that a property of these architectures is that, while they are capable of supporting multilevel confidentiality policies, they do not generally support partia...
متن کاملPASSIVE: Policy-Assessed System-Level Security of Sensitive Information Processing in Virtualised Environments
Virtualised service platforms and cloud computing hold great promise for delivery of large applications in eGovernment. However, to date, the fundamental shared-resource nature of virtualisation technologies has raised legitimate security concerns for Government and other organisations with duties to protect confidential data.\nThe PASSIVE project proposes an improved model of security for such...
